Our beginners' course begins with a step-by-step drawing module, covering the fundamentals: mark-making, tonal values, observation, enlarging with grids, perspective, portraiture, and figurative drawing.
Our next module focuses on colourful oil pastels, a stepping stone between pencil sketching and using a wet painting medium.
In this module, we explore blending and mark-making techniques and learn about colour theory.
During our watercolour module, we expand on the colour theory learned in module 2 and explore colour harmony and contrasting colours. Students learn new painting techniques, including wet-in-wet, wet-on-dry, salt lifting, wax resist, and masking.
This versatile medium is our final module. Students learn about the medium and surfaces used, and explore the various tools and application techniques, such as impasto.
By the end of this module, students will have a wide repertoire of techniques and tools at their disposal, enabling them to explore different techniques and develop their own style.
At the end of our 14-week art courses, we hold an exhibition to celebrate students' progress with friends and family.
The exhibition is promoted to the local community and is a wonderful way to become accustomed to displaying your artwork and gaining the confidence to do so.
Stella is a professional artist bringing experience, knowledge, and creativity to every class. She encourages students to grow their confidence, explore new techniques, and develop their creativity.
Suma is a qualified school teacher and artist, full of positivity, who supports students in their artistic journeys and helps them reach their full potential.
Lakshmi, our class assistant, brings a wonderful mix of artistic, musical, and dance talents, adding creativity and energy to our classes.
I’ve attended two consecutive courses of this class and I can’t wait to continue! The syllabus is always interesting and helps in learning and understanding the formal elements of art. But most of all the two tutors are the heart and soul of the class. Their kindness, helpfulness and patience makes every single class a highlight of my week. I hope more people take the leap and come to participate in this journey!
